BUiD partners with top UK architecture school

Dubai, February 18, 2010

The British University in Dubai (BUiD) has partnered with UK’s Cardiff University to provide Middle East postgraduate students with research opportunities in architectural sustainability.

The agreement, formalised in December last  year, is now accepting students who wish to register for a PhD at the Welsh School of Architecture (WSA), which has a reputation as one of the best research and architecture schools in the UK, in the area of environmentally-aware design.

“The programme is unique as it allows students to stay in their jobs and close to their families in the region, while fulfilling the goal of attaining a PhD degree from a world-class institution in one of the most relevant scientific fields,” said Professor Phil Jones, head of School and director of Architectural Science, WSA, Cardiff University UK.

For the past four years running, WSA has been voted the UK’s top School of Architecture in the Times Higher Educational Supplement league table, and in 2008 a Research Assessment Exercise concluded that 90 per cent of the school’s research activity was globally recognised, said a statement.

“The agreement between BUiD and Cardiff University is in line with our vision to expand our world-class educational offerings, and provide potential students with PhD opportunities in key areas, such as sustainability,” added Martin Prince, registrar, BUiD.-TradeArabia News Service
