Geomatec, Tamkeen to support placement
Manama, April 29, 2009
Geomatec, the commercial arm of Bahrain Centre for Studies and Research, is participating with Tamkeen, Bahrain’s Labour Fund, aiming to find placement for Bahrain University graduates in the private sector.
Geomatec will coordinate with Tamkeen’s Bahraini University Graduates Employment
Programme, targeting placements for 1305 Bahraini University graduates.
Fifteen Bahraini University graduates have joined Geomatec recently under this programme.
These newly appointed employees will be trained to assume the position of geographic information system (GIS)/map editors at the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA). They will be responsible for conversation of utility map data into the EWA database.
In order to prepare them for the job, Geomatec provided the graduates with intensive training in GIS and the utility network as part of a full fledged training and career development plan.
“Geomatec believes in the national workforce as an important element in the job market. Our participation in the scheme is an evidence of our belief in the capabilities of the graduates and our confidence in the market,” said Dr Abduljalil Mahmood Zainal, chief executive officer, Geomatec.
Tamkeen’s Bahraini University Graduates Employment Programme offers the private sector establishments BD7000 ($18,560) financial support for every Bahraini university graduate on Tamkeen’s list, recruited by private sector establishments.
The scheme pays towards the support of the graduate’s salary of BD400. Tamkeen offers the employers a salary subsidy of up to BD6000 and a functional training subsidy of BD1000.
Companies participating in the programme can also avail from a wide array of training schemes designed and funded by Tamkeen.
“Amongst Tamkeen’s objectives are to make Bahrainis the employees of choices in the private sector,” said Tamkeen’s chief executive Abdulellah Al Qassimi.
“We look forward to work closely with Geomatec and other institutions in the private sector to ensure maximum benefit from all our programmes which caters towards enhancing the private sector’s role as the engine of growth for Bahrain’s national economy,” he added.
