GMU says seats for PharmD, DMD programs limited

Gulf Medical University said it is offering limited seats with an annual intake of 35 students for the Doctor of Dental Medicine (5 Years + 1 Year Internship) & 40 students for the Doctor of Pharmacy (4 ½ Years + 1 Year Internship) programs respectively.
The programs for the academic year 2008-09 commenced on October 15.
The University hopes to meet the huge demand for these programs based on the latest global trends in competence-based curriculum and is the first of its kind in the region.
The Gulf Pharmacy College aims to provide an innovative, integrated, comprehensive and patient-centered Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program to the new entrants, using world-class facilities, clinical simulations and the latest technologies to ensure development of excellence in pharmacy practice.
On graduation, the graduates will be able to join other healthcare professionals as practicing pharmacists in clinical settings in the hospitals and in the community; in the research and development divisions in the pharmaceutical industries; as academicians in educational institutions; and as self-employed professionals in the health sector.
The Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), a predoctoral program of Gulf Medical University, Ajman is unique to the Middle East.
The aims and objectives of the course are to educate students to become competent dentists with fundamental knowledge in biomedical and behavioural sciences.
The graduating dentists will be competent to deliver comprehensive dental care and will practice dentistry observing the highest level of professionalism.
The University has scheduled the White Coat Ceremony for the new programs on October 25, 2008. Dr Ali Bin Shakar, director general, Ministry of Health, UAE has agreed to be the Chief Guest and His Excellency Venu Rajamony The Consul General of India-Dubai will be the Guest of Honour.
The White Coat Ceremony, a highlight of the orientation process, signifies the student's entry into the profession and the commitment of the institution to impress upon them the entailed responsibilities and obligations of the healthcare occupations.
GMC Hospital held the inauguration of its Dental Centre by Sheikh Dr Majid Bin Saeed Al Nauimi, chairman Ruler's Court, Ajman-UAE on October 15 as part of the clinical training facilities of the Gulf Dental College at Ajman.
The GMU Simulation Centre was also inaugurated by the Provost, professor Gita Ashok Raj.
GMU Simulation Center aims to promote excellence in clinical care, advanced critical care through improved multidisciplinary team performance by simulation in a safe, controlled and lifelike environment.
The Simulation Center houses a variety of models and manikins and other products of a state-of-the-art medical simulation technology.
The set up has a Delivery Suite with a Full Body Pregnancy Simulator and an Infant Simulator; an Adult ICU Simulation Room with a SimMan; and a Community Simulation Room and class rooms all equipped with facilities for audio-video recording in the multimedia control rooms.
Besides this low fidelity simulators like Resusci Anne & Baby, Airway Management Trainer, LP Simulator & others are made available for hands-on-training of basic clinical skills for clinical skills training of medical students, graduates, physicians (training-of-the-trainer); and in-service training of nurses, and other health professionals. - TradeArabia News Service
