SK Group reaffirms Iraq commitment

SK Group, one of the largest conglomerates in South Korea, participated in the ‘3rd Iraq International Fair, Expo Gateway to Iraq’ in Turkey.
SK’s participation in the fair builds on its continuous efforts and investments in the Iraq’s reconstruction efforts.
A group of senior executives from the SK Group attended the fair, including president of resources and chemical at SK Energy Jeong Joon Yu and senior vice-president of plant marketing at SK Yong Jang Song.
After attending various events for VIP’s, including the official inauguration ceremony, and Iraqi ministers’ tour of the SK Group stand, senior executives of the SK delegation expressed high hopes on the possibility of the Group’s broader role within Iraq when they met a group of Iraqi journalists.
“SK Group has been establishing long-term partnership with Iraq, as the only Korean company with diversified commercial relationships including importing crude oil from the country. In the course of such partnership, we have accumulated fundamental understanding of Iraq’s needs,” said Yu.
“We believe that our diverse business areas and competencies shared amongst the SK Group of companies, such as oil, construction, and telecommunication, can add significant momentum to Iraq’s reconstruction efforts. Together with the Iraqi government, SK Group is in a position to bring global capability to the benefit of Iraq and its people while having an immediate impact on the rebuilding process.”
Being one of the largest diversified business Group’s in Asia, SK Group can bring global expertise and delivery across many areas that are currently under development.
Resource development technology and expertise on managing refinery accumulated in SK Energy, and plant construction technology in SK E&C as an example, can significantly contribute to rebuild Iraq’s outdated refineries and manufacturing infrastructure.
SK Telecom, the number one telecommunications service provider in Korea, can provide advanced telecommunication services as well as information technology infrastructure, in conjunction with SK E&C, to help bridge the gap between Iraqi infrastructure / services and those of its neighbors.
