Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced over 100 leading utility developers including global giants such as Acciona Agua, Cobra, GS Inima, Marubeni, Samsung and Suez as well as regional heavyweights Orascom Construction, Alghanim, Lamar Holding, Metito and Utico have expressed interest in qualifying for its independent water projects with over 300,000 cu m/day capacity.

 

It has now prequalified 41 of them for its independent water plant (IWP) projects and 53 for its independent sewage treatment plant (ISTP) projects.

 

This comes following the launch of the 'Pre-Qualification Programme', in May - a key initiative from SWPC aimed at facilitating and expediting tendering procedures through establishment of a permanent list of pre-qualified developers. 

 

This programme has also attracted several top Saudi companies including Nesma, Alfanar, Al Jomaih, Marafiq, Mowah Company, said SWPC in a statement.

 

A key initiative, the Pre-Qualification Programme also gives the private sector sufficient time to form consortia, thereby enhancing competition for SWPC’s future projects, it added.

 

Once the pool of pre-qualified developers is ready, the request for proposals (RFPs) for these IWP and ISTP projects will be issued directly to them.

 

SWPC is setting up separate list for developers for projects with capacity higher than 300,000 cu m/day and those with capacity equal to 300,000 cu m/day or lower than that.

 

Of the more than 100 developers who applied for the prequalification for IWP projects with capacity higher than 300,000 cu m/day, only 41 have made it to the pre-qualifiers list.

On ISTP projects, SWPC said of the more than 100 developers, only 53 have made it to the pre-qualifiers list for projects with capacity equal to 150,000 cu m/day or lower than that.
