Sharjah announces opening of new highway
SHARJAH, December 14, 2017
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) has announced the opening of a new road in the central region built at a cost of Dh57 million ($16 million).
The project, which extends from Mahafez to Fayah, has been upgraded from a one-way road to a two-way highway, said a statement from authority.
The move comes in line with the directives of Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi to boost the infrastructure projects in the Central Region, it stated.
SRTA chairman Yousef Al Suwaji said the project comes within the framework of the comprehensive development plan of the different regions in the emirate.
The work included the conversion of the single road to two tracks, with a width of 7.3 m in each direction and running 14.8-km long, besides the extension of rainwater drainage along the road, said the statement.
The project also involved the building of four intersections along the road to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and achieve maximum levels of traffic safety, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
