Oman to start work on two key tunnels

MUSCAT, November 7, 2017

Oman's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MoTC) will soon start work on two major tunnels on the Bidbid-Sur road, said a report.

Two more tunnels in the 450- to 600-m range will be built to protect road users in case of landslides, reported the Muscat Daily.

The dual carriageway is being built as part of Phase One of the Bidbid-Sur road project, which also includes development of 12 multi-level interchanges in the first stage.

One tunnel, extending 600 m, will be built in Nidab village while the other will come up in Wadi Al Aqa. There will be two other tunnels in Wadi Al Aqa to protect road users in case of landslides. They will be between 450 and 600 m, said the report.

The project includes 12 multi-level interchanges in the first stage from Bidbid to Ibra, it added.
