Bahrain completes work on new Zayed Town exit

Work has been completed on a new exit to Zayed Town from Sheikh Salman Highway to the North of the Driving School, said a statement from the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning.
The project aims to alleviate traffic congestions along the new housing areas and other vital areas and is part of the construction of a single entrance and exit to Zayed Town from Sheikh Salman Highway, it stated.
The scope of work included construction of a single entrance and exit to Zayed Town from Sheikh Salman Highway, which will provide an alternative to traffic exiting Zayed Town towards Riffa without having to pass through Isa Town Gate traffic signal, said the ministry in its statement.
The project will also ease traffic congestion at Salmabad Interchange and will also reduce traffic congestion along Isa Town Gate Interchange and Salmabad Interchange.
The ministry started work on the 500-m-long entrance to Zayed Town in the beginning of June.
The civil works involved in the project were awarded to National Excavations at the cost of BD261,000 ($687,213), while the asphalt paving works were awarded to United Gulf at the cost of BD106,000 ($279,098).
The installation of the iron fence as part of traffic safety was awarded to Al Afoo Company at the cost of BD26,000 ($68,458).
Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs & Urban Planning Essam bin Abdulla Khalaf said: "Works included levelling works, protecting existing services, implementing ground channels for present and future usage, implementing a storm water drainage network in low areas, implementing two reclamation layers, paving works, signage and lighting."
Khalaf said the launch of the new exit to Zayed Town will be followed by the opening of a single entrance in mid-September.
"Also, the opening of the new exit coincidences with the expansion of the lane headed to Sheikh Salman Highway nearby the Ministry of Labour. The two projects, besides the Educational District Exit Project, are expected to contribute to improving traffic flow along Isa Town Gate Interchange and reduce congestion at peak hours," he explained.
The ministry said it is implementing the change in cordination with the Traffic General Directorate.
As part of revamp works, the system of the traffic signal located at the Northern entrance interchange leading to Isa Town Area will be adjusted, it added.
Meanwhile, the ministry said it has completed road paving work in Block 626 at Eker area of the kingdom.
The BD525,975 ($1.38 million) project, which covered roads 2628, 2629, 2643, 2639, 2621 and 2618, was implemented by Bahrain Motors.
The scope of work included paving of 4.08km-long-roads catering to 253 buildings and houses in the area.
"The ministry is almost done with the main works involved in the project while work is underway to construct an access road to Hawrat Sanad and Nuwaidrat Housing," remarked Sayyed Bader Alawi, the roads projects and maintenance director at the ministry.
Work also includes removing the old paving layers on a number of roads, levelling works, implementing a storm water drainage network in low locations, implementing ground channels for future usage, lighting, signage and painting ground markings, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
