DOHA, June 4, 2017
Six Construct, a subsidiary of the Besix Group, and one of the largest Belgian construction companies operating in the Middle East, recently announced the completion of Al Rayyan Road upgrade project in Qatar.
The project was carried out in collaboration with Boom Construction Company, and consisted of upgrading 2.9 km of one of the main arteries in Doha, the Al Rayyan road.
“The site team’s major role was to construct two massive concrete underpasses, each 650 m long, 50 m wide and up to 15 m deep,” said Nicolas Bruyninckx, project director of Al Rayyan Road. “Both underpasses have been fully built, and each underpass was built using 260,000 cu m of concrete and 20,000 tonnes of reinforcement, on top of which 80,000 tonnes of asphalt was laid."
Apart from the underpasses, the team also completed three cable tunnels, reaching a total length of 1.1 km. They also built three critical substations and pulled all low voltage and medium voltage (LV/MV) cables required to energise the streetlighting,” he said.
The Ashghal Expressway project team recently opened the road to the public with work substantially complete (90 per cent). The project team is now finishing minor activities, such as landscaping work.
The opening ceremony was attended by Transport and Communications Minister Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti; Municipality and Environment Minister Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Rumaihi, and Ashghal President Engineer Saad bin Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al Muhannadi.
