MANAMA, May 28, 2017

Work on the Malkiya Entrance Dirt Roads Programme in Bahrain, which involves paving of 2.6-km-long roads and  implementation of a storm water drainage network, is nearing completion.

The project aims to provide infrastructure services for 90 housing units and facilitate movement in Malkiya and the environs in the Northern Governorate, said a statement from Bahrain's Ministry of Works, Municipalities and Urban Planning.

Roads Projects and Maintenance director at the ministry Sayyed Bader Alawi said it is part of the government’s programme to improve infrastructure in the kingdom, give priority to the paving of dirt roads in urban areas and create an integrated roads network in all areas in the Kingdom.

The contract worth BD203,593 ($536,350) was awarded to Al Wardi Contracting, said the statement.

"The ministry has completed paving 90 per cent of the roads in the block. Presently, work is underway to implement a number of storm water drainage tanks, construct speed humps and put in place traffic signs and ground markings," revealed Alawi.

The project comprises paving of roads, implementation of ground channels for present and future use, installation of a new lighting network, painting works and signage, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
