Gavaskar joins officials at the ground-breaking ceremony.

First Group breaks ground on 34-storey Dubai hotel tower

DUBAI, November 14, 2016

UAE-based property developer The First Group has broken ground on one of its newest hotel developments, Millennium Place JVT Dubai, a 34-storey development, which will come up in the bustling Jumeirah Village Triangle (JVT) district.

A four-star deluxe property with a large inventory of 599 guest rooms, Millennium Place JVT Dubai will be managed by leading international hospitality group Millennium & Copthorne.

The new hotel is located in one of Dubai’s most vibrant commercial and residential communities, close to all of the city’s major roads, as well as the city’s new mega aviation hub, Al Maktoum International Airport. It is scheduled to open in 2019.

Indian Test cricket legend, Sunil Gavaskar, who is the brand ambassador of The First Group broke ground on the project in the presence of top officials of The First Group including chief operating officer Rob Burns, chief investment officer Rashad Barajakly and head of asset management Mariano Faz.

The ceremony was also attended by leading Millennium & Copthorne (Middle East & Africa) officials including chief operating officer Francois Kassab, vice president (operations) David Todd, vice president (technical services) Kevin Cairns and the director of hotel openings Jad Shamseddin.

Besides promoting the project, Gavaskar, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen in the history of cricket, has also invested in Millennium Place JVT Dubai.

“Millennium Place JVT Dubai marks the start of a new chapter for The First Group as we forge ahead with plans to expand our portfolio of hotels in sought-after districts across the city,” remarked Burns.

“We look forward to seeing this modern hotel take shape, a property we believe will set the benchmark for hospitality standards in JVT,” he added.

Kassab said: "We are very excited to have attended this ceremony and witness the considerable progress in the construction of Millennium Place JVT Dubai, thanks to The First Group. We look forward to working closely with one of Dubai’s leading property developers to ensure the success of this project."

"There is a huge demand for quality and affordable hospitality offerings in the UAE and we are confident that this hotel will be a strong addition to both the city and to our portfolio, which we aim to grow to 100 properties by 2020," he noted.

According to him, Millennium Place JVT Dubai will be a high-profile addition to Dubai’s dazzling skyline, thanks to its striking glass-clad façade.

Millennium Place JVT Dubai has been designed with business and leisure guests in mind, with stand-out facilities including specialty restaurants, a spa, business centre, and a luxurious rooftop clubhouse with swimming pool, gym, steam rooms and a sundeck.

The property has already gained recognition for its innovative design, receiving a Highly Commended Award in the Best New Hotel Design & Construction category at the recent 2016-2017 Africa & Arabia Property Awards.

The Expo 2020 Dubai site in Dubai South and popular shopping destinations including Dubai Mall and Mall of the Emirates are all in close proximity while the hotly-anticipated Al Khail Avenue Mall development, due to open in 2018, is virtually on the hotel’s doorstep.

Gavaskar described being on hand at such an early stage of development of Millennium Place JVT Dubai as a “proud moment”.

"It is a true honour to be invited to this ceremony, which signals exciting times ahead for The First Group,” he stated.

“It’s a pleasure to be involved in the promotion of one of the Middle East’s most dynamic property development firms – an organisation I have found professional, welcoming and pioneering in its field,” he added.

A British-owned international hotel and property development company, The First Group said this is its fourth dedicated hotel development in Dubai.

With its headquarters in Dubai and global presence spanning Algeria, Azerbaijan, Ghana, India, Kazakhstan, Nigeria, Oman, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, The First Group’s client base is expanding rapidly.-TradeArabia News Service
