RTA to begin Dubai airport intersection work
DUBAI, September 22, 2016
Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) said it will be undertaking modifications to the Airport Road intersection on Saturday (September 24).
Owing to this work, RTA said the residents and passengers driving to the Dubai International Airport this weekend are likely to face some delays at the junction of Marrakesh Street and Airport Road next to Emirates headquarters.
The initial phase of the works, which will last for at least eight hours, will affect motorists travelling on Marrakesh Street in the direction of Terminal 3, said the RTA in its statement.
Also traffic will be diverted along a short detour, where some delays can be expected as a result, said the statement from RTA.
Passengers can possibly expect some further disruptions for the remainder of the week, as the final traffic diversion at the junction is put into full effect, it added.
The roadwork is part of a massive upgrade programme of strategic junctions along the Airport Road, designed to accommodate additional vehicular traffic resulting from continued passenger traffic growth at Dubai International, said Richard Talian, the executive vice-president (Strategy and Development) at Dubai Airports.
"This roadwork is a critical element of our DXB Plus programme which is designed to boost our capacity at Dubai airport from 90 million passengers per year to 118 million passengers while improving service," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
