EC to co-operate in Iran railway projects

The European Commission has discussed development of railway co-operation with the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways (IRIR), according to a report.
At a meeting with Henric Hololei, the director general for Mobility and Transport of EC, IRIR managing director Mohsen Pourseyed Aqaei elaborated on the firm's capabilities and presented a report on the way to connect Iranian railway network to Asia and Europe as well as the southern Iranian port city of Khorramshahr to Iraq, said the Iran Daily report.
The EC is ready for bilateral co-operation, transfer of technology and consultations on railway projects and joint cooperation in different sectors, it said.
The IRIR is considering the electrification of some of its railway lines in co-operation with a number of countries, to increase the speed of its passenger trains on different tracks, it added.
