UK builder Kier inks Dubai project contract

DUBAI, February 1, 2016

UK builder Kier has won a £25-million ($36 million) infrastructure contract from UAE-based Meraas Holding for its upcoming Bluewaters Island project off the coast of Jumeirah Beach Residences.

The contract, the second for the British firm from Meraas Holding, covers infrastructure and public realm works on the island, reported The National.

It follows on from an earlier deal secured last year to build more than 700 apartments at Bluewaters under a joint venture with Al Shafar General Contracting, it stated.

Located off the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) coastline, ‘Bluewaters’ will feature demarcated retail, residential, hospitality and entertainment zones, said a statement from Meraas Holding.

Serving as the centrepiece of the island project, the 210-meter Ferris wheel will offer breath-taking views of Dubai’s exotic coastline and iconic landmarks such as Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah and Burj Khalifa, it stated.

Also in Dubai, Kier is currently in the final phase of handing over a new £26 million ($37.2 million) campus at Dubai International Academic City for the University of Dubai.

Also it is set to complete three contracts worth £47 million ($67.2 million) at Dubai Parks & Resorts.
