Abandoned homes used as vice dens to be demolished

Dozens of abandoned homes suspected of being used as vice dens in one of Bahrain’s oldest residential areas could soon be torn down. It is forbidden for homeowners to demolish their houses in Muharraq Governorate unless they have prior permission from the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), as it seeks to preserve the area’s heritage. However, fears that the houses are being used for 'illicit acts' means this approval process will now be fast-tracked after an agreement was reached with BACA president, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
