Saudi PDC in key construction milestone

RIYADH, June 7, 2015

Ports Development Company (PDC), the owner and developer of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah Port, has achieved a key milestone handing over the fourth berth in less than six months from delivering the third, said a report.

Delivered to National Container Terminal Company, the berth meets key requirements of Saudi Coast Guards and Customs, and was constructed according to highest international standards, reported The Saudi Gazette, citing a senior official.

“The fourth berth is considered to be one of the important developmental stages at King Abdullah Port, especially as the handover comes just after a year and half of port operations,” stated Abdullah bin Mohamed Hameedaddin, managing director of PDC.

Once ready, the berth will be 1,400 m long  and 18 m deep in size, stated the report.

This will contribute to a major increase in the port’s container storage capacity which is poised to reach three million containers per year at King Abdullah Port, it added.
