RTA completes Dubai internal roads work

DUBAI, May 19, 2015

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai said it has completed construction of internal roads in 13 residential districts in the UAE emirate at a cost of Dh552 million ($150 million).

Mattar Al Tayer, chairman of the board and executive director of the RTA, said works were continuing at a cost of Dh319 million ($86.85 million) on the construction of internal roads in five other residential districts namely Al Barsha South 1, Al Barsha 2, Muhaisna 2, Al Mamzar and Al Nahda 1.

While works on Al Barsha 1 and 2 have reached a completion rate of 60 per cent, works on Muhaisna 2 has crossed 30 per cent. The projects are part of the Five-Year Plan (2012-2016).

In 2013, the RTA had completed the construction of internal roads at three residential districts including the pavements of internal roads costing about Dh61 million ($16.6 million), while in 2014, four more internal roads in six residential areas were completed at a cost of Dh335 million ($91 million).

"At the start of this year, the RTA concluded the construction of roads at Al Warqaa 1, 2, 3 and 4 costing about Dh157 million ($42.7 million)," stated Al Tayer.
 
The work included construction and lighting works for 125-km roads besides building of new roads stretching across 89 km, improvements of the existing roads extending 36 km, roadside parking, parking slots for some mosques and public schools in the area, and all road works such as markings and traffic signals, he added.  
 
According to Al Tayer, work is currently under way on internal roads in five residential areas at a cost of about Dh319 million ($87 million). This includes constructing internal roads at Al Barsha South 1, and collector roads at Al Barsha 2, he stated.

The project also includes the construction of internal roads at Al Barsha South 1 (Area 671) extending 53 km, collector roads at Al Barsha South 2 (Area 672) extending 7 km. The project will provide an additional entry to Al Barsha South 1 from Umm Suqeim Road, and an additional entry to Al Barsha South 2 from Hessa Road, he added.

Meanwhile, RTA will release two tenders this November for constructing roads at Al Khawaneej 2 and Nad El Sheba 4. It is also planning to construct roads at five residential areas next year, namely Al Awir 1, Jebel Ali Industrial Area in addition to Al Qusais Industrial 3, 4 and 5.-TradeArabia News Service
