Musandam power plant ... a major win for Pöyry.

Pöyry wins key Oman power plant contract

MUSCAT, April 23, 2015

Pöyry, a leading international consulting and engineering company, said it has been awarded the owner's engineer services assignment for the 120 MW Musandam Independent Power Plant Project (IPP) in Oman.

The contract, awarded by Musandam Power Company, includes the design review of the EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) contractor documentation as well as technical and site supervision services.

Lead developer Oman Oil Company and its partner LG International Corporation from South Korea are setting up this 120 MW IPP using dual fuel reciprocating engines.

The project is located at Tibat, Wilayat Bukha in the Musandam governorate of Oman.

As the Musandam peninsula is separated from the rest of the country, its electricity grid is also independent from Oman national grid, said a statement from Pöyry.

Also being the sole power supplier, the plant must have a very high reliability and availability. It is designed to run primarily with natural gas but also to accept diesel fuel as a back-up fuel, stated the top European firm.

This project will substitute the existing diesel-powered generation facilities in the governorate. The fast-track project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the fourth quarter of 2016, it added.

On the contract win, Dr Raffael Schubiger, the head of thermal power, said: "Pöyry has been very active in Oman. This order further demonstrates our commitment to this very important region and the trust that clients put in us."

"Pöyry is one of the world's leading power engineering companies and we are proud to have been selected by the Musandam Power Company for this interesting and challenging project," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
