Depa wins two hotel fit-out deals in Dubai

DUBAI, September 22, 2014

Leading interior contracting company Depa has signed two new interior fit-out contracts totalling Dh144 million ($39.1 million) with the Emerald Palace Kempinski Hotel, Palm Jumeirah, and the Novotel World Trade Centre, both in Dubai, UAE.

The Emerald Palace Kempinski Hotel occupies a 100,000-sq-m plot of land on the Palm Jumeirah comprising 345 luxury rooms of a median size of over 100 sq m, of which 36 are spacious suites, surrounded by gardens and views of a lagoon, said a statement.

The private spaces, featuring golden and silver themes, are furnished with bespoke, handcrafted pieces courtesy of traditional Italian furniture craftsman Franscesco Molon.

The hotel also boasts elegant event spaces,18 food and beverage outlets, luxury pool and spa facilities as well as a cinema and 3,000 sq m of boutique and business and conferencing facilities.

The fit-out contract will include the engineering, manufacturing, delivery and installation for all guest rooms and public areas, including the business centre, ballrooms, lounge and all-day dining spaces. The works will start immediately and the project is expected to be completed by late next year.

Nadim Akhras, interim group CEO, Depa, said: “Depa is pleased to see the return of hospitality sector contracts and is excited to be involved with two leading brands. The fit-out work is already under way for the Novotel Hotel and we will begin shortly on the Kempinski.

“The new investment upswing in Dubai’s hospitality sector is broad-based, with activity rising across small- and large-scale projects. The contracting cycle has started to reach the interior fit-out phase and we are also witnessing numerous hotels wanting to refurbish.”

Meanwhile, the Novotel work includes the refurbishment, fit-out, furniture and equipment of 412 guest rooms, lift areas, lobbies and corridors of the 13- floor building. The project is due for completion by January next year.

“We are executing on our plan to rebuild our backlog with preferred projects and continue to strengthen our position to push on into Q4 2014 and carry the momentum that has seen us sign significant new contracts in our key markets over the last few months.”

The company’s Asia-based subsidiary, Design Studio Group, has also signed a Dh220- million ($59.9 million) retrofit contract for serviced apartments, while Vedder, its Europe-based yacht interior contracting specialist signed a Dh84 million ($22.9 million) contract for the fit-out of a luxury yacht. - TradeArabia News Service
