Drake & Scull wins $46m Omani MEP contracts

Dubai-headquartered contractor Drake & Scull International (DSI) has clinched four major mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) contracts worth Dh168 million ($45.7 million) in Oman.
A regional market leader in the integrated design, engineering and construction sector, DSI said the contracts were awarded to its local engineering unit Drake & Scull Engineering (DSE) Oman.
Under the terms of the first agreement, DSE Oman will provide MEP services for a government facility in Al Ghubrah, Muscat. The company has commenced work on the site, which is scheduled for completion in 2015.
The second agreement is for completion of MEP works for a 36,452-sq-m government complex in Nizwa. The project, encompassing residential and essential services facilities, is scheduled for completion in 2016.
In addition, DSE Oman will deliver essential services for a major leisure and tourism project.
DSE Oman will also extend its engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for upgrading core MEP systems at a major oil refinery.
Commenting on the win, Ahmad Al Naser, the managing director of Drake & Scull Engineering, said: "This is a reflection of our expertise and experience in delivering large-scale projects in Oman. These contracts are in line with our strategic growth plans for the sultanate which is currently experiencing a robust projects market."
The Omani government will invest Dh205 billion ($55.8 billion) into infrastructure between 2013 and 2017 and a further Dh205 billion ($55.8 billion) into the real estate sector by 2022, stated Al Naser, citing a report by Oxford Business Group.
"DSE Oman wants to be a significant player in shaping Oman’s modern urban landscape and leverage its historical association with Oman to secure more projects in the infrastructure and construction sectors. Moreover, we are keen to demonstrate our engineering capabilities in rail and in association with Drake & Rail, hope to play a decisive role in the development of Oman’s rail sector," he added.
DSE has undertaken several key projects in Oman, including the Muscat Royal Orchestra, the National Museum of Oman, and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. Currently, the company is delivering MEP services on the new terminal at the Muscat International Airport and the Duqm Hotel.-TradeArabia News Service
