1st phase of major Bahrain underpass completed
Manama, May 26, 2011
The first phase of a multi-million dinar interchange in Isa Town has been declared complete.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa opened the Isa Town underpass. The 560-metre long artery will handle non-stop traffic from the Bahrain Gas Roundabout to the junction linking Shaikh Zayed Highway and December 16 with Shaikh Salman Highway and vice-versa.
'We, in the government, keep one eye on security and another on development. One hand builds a brighter future while the other defends the nation and staves off threats,' he said as he inaugurated the underpass.
Present were Municipality and Urban Planning Affairs Minister Dr Juma Al Ka'abi, Works Minister Essam Khalaf and other senior officials.
A 905-metre-long western-bound flyover was opened last month as part of the two-phase scheme.
The second part of the BD41-million ($108.7 million) infrastructure project is scheduled to be inaugurated in September. It includes a northern bound flyover, stretching from Al Estiqlal Highway to Shaikh Salman Highway.-TradeArabia News Service
