Mott MacDonald wins Dubai Pearl design deal
Dubai, January 13, 2011
Mott MacDonald has been appointed by Pearl Dubai as the detailed design engineer for Phase 1 of the $6 billion luxury Dubai Pearl development.
Dubai Pearl is centred on four iconic towers of over 70 floors capped by a single three storey roof known as the Sky Palaces.
It is a city within a city, situated on the fringes of the Dubai Media and Technology Free Zone overlooking Palm Jumeirah. It will provide homes for 9,000 people and a workplace for a further 12,000.
The project will comprise nearly 1.86 million sq m (20 million sq ft) of premium offices, apartments, hotels and shopping districts as well as entertainment amenities. In addition, 56 per cent of the site will be dedicated open space and landscaping to become the first truly walkable environment in the city, with the masterplan designed to encourage community living and energy efficiency, targeting Gold Leed Certification in recognition of its environmental performance.
Lars Caneborg Mott MacDonald’s project director said: “Dubai Pearl’s guiding philosophy is to re-draw the global blueprint for the future of multi-faceted mixed-use developments. The core theme running through the project is work, play, stay and live, which will help shape a unique 24-hour environment where the feeling of community is as important as the world class amenities and luxury lifestyle. Comfort, convenience and community are the watchwords for Dubai Pearl and these are the foundations on which this new city will be built.”
Mott MacDonald will provide detailed design engineering consultancy services for all mechanical (HVAC), electrical, public health, fire, communications and security systems for the phase 1 development. Mott MacDonald will also provide the Leed consultancy role, coordinating all internal and external consultants towards Leed Gold accreditation.
Lars added: “We are delighted to be appointed on this world class project in Dubai which is no easy task in today’s competitive market. We won the project by focusing on meeting the client’s needs, such as local presence, strong experience in high rise buildings, retail and our Masdar City sustainability experience.”
The development will be delivered over two phases with the initial handover scheduled to start at the end of 2013.
