Paris, November 16, 2009

Bouygues Construction won a contract worth QR 4.75 billion ($1.4 billion) to build an office complex in Doha, the French company said on Monday.

The project in the Qatari capital's West Bay business district will include nine office buildings with up to 52 stories, a five-star hotel, a shopping centre and a mosque, the unit of Bouygues said in a statement.

The project was awarded by Barwa Financial District, a subsidiary of Barwa Real Estate, the largest semi-public property group in Qatar.

Bouygues Construction will work with Qatari companies Midmac Contracting Company and Aljaber Engineering on the project, which will take 3 1/2 years to build and involve 6,000 workers at peak times, it said.

'In the current economic environment, it enables us to improve our visibility abroad and become a major player in a high-growth area,' Bouygues Contruction chief executive Yves Gabriel said in the statement.

Bouygues Construction's other projects in the Arabian peninsula include the Jeddah Equestrian Club in Saudi Arabia and the elevated rail transit system in Dubai.
