Al Jaber wins $1.17bn Dubai Concourse 3 deal

Dubai Aviation City Corporation has announced the award of the main package of Dubai International Airport’s (DIA) Concourse 3 to Al Jaber Engineering & Contracting (ALEC).

The contract includes the construction, completion and maintenance of the civil, architectural, MEP, SAS and signage works for the third concourse, said a statement.

Concourse 3 will be dedicated to Emirates Airlines and will provide 20 contact gates including 18 gates specifically designed for A380 aircraft and it will increase the passenger handling capacity at Dubai International Airport up to 68 million passengers per year.

The contract is valued at $1.17 billion, according to a published report.

Al Habtoor Leighton and joint venture partners Murray & Roberts and Takenaka recently pulled out of a deal to build the third concourse after being unable to agree to a contract with the DCA.

Work on Concourse 3 which has already begun, will be completed by the end of 2011.

ALEC is a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi based Al Jaber Group, and has been executing major construction projects in the UAE since its inception in 1999. The company currently operates in Dubai and Abu Dhabi and has delivered significant landmark developments managing to establish a distinguished name within the construction sector.- TradeArabia News Service
