Marina Wharf I and II deal awarded

Dheeraj & East Coast (DEC) has announced the appointment of M/s Gammon & Billimoria as the main contractor for undertaking the Dh250 million construction work at the Marina Wharf I and II projects in the Dubai Marina.
The contract envisages completion of construction work within a 21-month period by mid-Sept 2009, said DEC managing director Dheeraj Wadhawan.
Piling and shoring work on the 230,000 sq. ft. project Marina wharf I and 250,000 sq ft project Marina Wharf II which began in April 2007, has been completed and construction work on this project is expected to begin soon.
Commenting on the award of the construction contract for the Dh525 million Marina Wharf I and II development, Wadhawan added:
“Quality has been the mainstay and hallmark of DEC over the years and, even in this project, tender invitations were based on very stringent, pre-qualification criteria that focused extensively on regional experience given the rapidly changing regional dynamics.
“Gammon & Billimoria, which is promoted by two Indian construction majors and which has significant local experience, perfectly fitted the bill and we are confident that they will achieve the desired results within the given timeframe while maintaining our high quality standards,” Dheeraj Wadhawan said.
Guiding Gammon & Billimoria’s success in the UAE is the over 1500 projects in combined experience of its promoters, who also both boast of Quality Management Systems which are ISO 9001:2000.
In the UAE the company can already take credit for the construction of the concrete domes and control tower of the Sharjah Airport, in addition to, many other commercial and residential projects including the Ramada Hotel in Bur Dubai and the Emirates Bank in Deira.
Commenting on being awarded the construction contract for the project, Gammon & Billimoria general manager N Mukesh said

Marina Wharf I and II is a freehold residential project comprising of two self-contained properties that combine luxury with affordability alongside exclusive sports facilities like a six-lane bowling alley, speedball court, spacious squash court and top-of-the-line billiards room, besides a fully-staffed cafeteria and 24-hour security.
The Marina I project offers 149 residential and retail units including 35 one-bedroom apartments, 70 two-bedroom apartments and 22 three-bedroom apartments, two penthouses and eight villas.
