Unibeton Ready Mix, a leading concrete supplier, has completed a record-breaking concrete pour in the UAE.

The 22000 cu m concrete pour  - which is double the size of any previous pour in the region and the equivalent of filing 9 Olympic sized swimming pools – laid the basement of Al Attar Sky Spiral, a 49-level, residential tower in Al Sofouh, Dubai.

The building is commissioned by Ahamed Abd Al Rahim Al Attar, founder of the Al Attar Group and managed under the chairmanship of Mana Al Attar.

Demanding the highest levels of technical and logistical expertise, the mammoth 35-hour pour, finished on September 7 and leveraged the combined efforts of Unibeton’s nine, strategically located concrete batching plants with a nominal capacity to generate up to 1000 cu m of concrete per hour, more than 150 transit mixers and 15 mobile and six standby pumps.

Unibeton, the largest concrete supplier in the country with annual supply exceeding 3 million cu m is a member of the construction experts Al Fara’a Group.  Group managing director J R Gangaramani asserts that the business was able to deliver this regional record-breaker because of its investment in research and development.

The project offered many technical challenges, according to Unibeton general manager Eng Mohammed Shedadeh, including maintaining the continuous supply of temperature controlled concrete. 

“With ambient temperatures currently around 40 deg c, we had to maintain the concrete at the specified 32 deg c with the use of over 1,500 tonnes of ice, coupled with this were the stringent quality checks on the 10,000 tonnes of cement and 40,000 tonnes of aggregate, carried in 2,500 truck loads, that we needed to complete the work.

“We had a dedicated team of best in the business scientists, technicians, engineers and other skilled employees all with a commitment to quality and to testing the untested so I was always confident that we would deliver this landmark pour on time and with the highest quality results,” he added.

Unibeton was strategically supported by key partners during the work which required an extensive back-up operation, to manage aspects of health and safety, supply chain and welfare for the over 1,000 project workforce.
