MEPS launches electronic bill payment system in Jordan

AMMAN, JORDAN, June 9, 2016

Middle East Payment Services (MEPS), a consortium of elite local and regional banks, recently launched the Electronic Bill Presentment and Payment (EBPP) service eFawateerCom, in Amman, Jordan.

The service, owned by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and operated by Madfoo3atCom Company for Electronic Payments, enables customers to pay water, electricity, telecom, education and healthcare bills, as well as government transactions and taxes, using bank cards or cash at any of MEPS’ points-of-sale (POS) in a safe and convenient manner, the organisation said.

The system aims to view and pay all kinds of bills and other payments electronically through all banking channels – including bank branches, internet banking, automated teller machines (ATM), mobile banking, Interactive Voice Response (IVR) and mobile phones, in addition to the eFawateerCom Portal and, most recently, through POS devices. This helps facilitate and accelerate the process of collecting due bills and payments across all the mentioned channels, around the clock, in an easy and safe way.

During the first phase, MEPS activated the service in June 2016 at two hypermarkets: Miles and Al Farid Stores. The company plans on expanding the service to encompass 400 of its merchants with a combined total of 900 machines as part of a service package available to merchants. These include supermarkets, hypermarkets, libraries, mobile stores, car rental offices, and money exchange companies.

MEPS chairman, Caesar Qulajen, commented: “We are committed to fulfilling our promise of rising to our customers’ expectations and meeting market needs, achieved by continuously facilitating transactions and making them simple and convenient for all. For this reason, we sought to extend to payment card holders eFawateerCom’s various benefits, which not only ensure secure, easy and around-the-clock access, but also offer complete control of when and how bills are to be paid to various collecting entities.”

Founded in 2009 and owned by eleven local and regional leading banks and companies, MEPS is an innovative, regional payment services provider, offering payment card services, ATM management, secure POS devices, e-commerce payment gateway solutions, fraud monitoring and loyalty programs. Additionally, MEPS is a payment processor, card issuer and merchant acquirer. –TradeArabia News Service
