Cargostore Worldwide’s LiftaLoo offshore welfare unit has won the People First Award at the fifth annual Global Offshore Wind Awards, organised by RenewableUK in London, recognising efforts to improve health, safety and wellbeing in offshore wind operations.
Launched in 2025, the LiftaLoo was developed to address the
lack of dedicated, hygienic toilet facilities for engineers and maintenance
teams working on offshore wind turbines and remote platforms.
Without suitable facilities at work sites, technicians may
need to return to service operation vessels (SOVs) for toilet breaks, use
makeshift alternatives or postpone using the toilet. Cargostore developed the
portable unit to provide a practical sanitation solution that can move with
crews between vessels and offshore structures.
The product’s development was supported financially by
Connection Capital and Agathos, while manufacturing company Tharsus provided
the production capability.
“We are absolutely thrilled that the LiftaLoo has received
the People First Award. Access to safe, hygienic toilet facilities should be a
basic part of working offshore, and we recognised the need for a practical
solution that crews could take with them,” said Andrew Hart, CEO of Cargostore
Worldwide.
“With the backing of Connection Capital and Agathos and
Tharsus’s manufacturing expertise, we were able to bring that solution to
market. This award recognises the importance of improving everyday working
conditions for the people delivering offshore energy projects.”
Bernard Dale, Managing Partner at Connection Capital said,
“Cargostore recognised a clear need within its market and brought together the
expertise and resources to address it. The LiftaLoo demonstrates how a business
with a close understanding of its customers can turn that insight into
meaningful innovation.
“Alongside Agathos, we are proud to support the team. The
People First Award is welcome recognition of their commitment to raising
welfare standards offshore.”
The LiftaLoo incorporates battery-powered hot-water
handwashing, a marine-grade porcelain bowl, a magnetic toilet seat design, a
sanitary bin, personal protective equipment (PPE) hooks, lighting and
ventilation. Its sealed, externally located 87-litre waste tank can be removed
for servicing without moving the entire unit.
Designed for demanding offshore environments, the unit
features a Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations
(LOLER)-certified single lifting point and four lashing points for securing it
on deck. Its recyclable linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) monocoque shell
is internally reinforced with aluminium to withstand offshore conditions.
By providing sanitation facilities directly at the worksite,
the LiftaLoo aims to reduce vessel transfers solely for toilet breaks while
improving privacy and access to hygienic facilities throughout crews’ shifts.
The award highlights the growing focus on worker welfare as offshore wind projects expand and operators seek practical ways to improve working conditions in remote environments. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
