Emirates NBD nine-month profit up 4pc, net income soars to $11.4bn

Leading UAE bank Emirates NBD has delivered record income of AED42.2 billion in the first nine months of 2026, up 15% year-on-year. Strong customer activity and broad-based growth across our core markets continued to drive balance sheet growth, with the group’s total assets reaching AED1.38 trillion, up 18% year-to-date.

Gross loans surged to AED833 billion, up by 27% year-to-date and deposits remained a core strength, growing by 19% year-to-date to AED 935 billion. Asset quality remained healthy, with a cost of risk of 37 basis points. Capital and liquidity ratios remain very solid, continuing to provide a strong foundation to support future growth.

The Dubai-based bank’s income rose 15% year-on-year to a record AED42.2 billion in the January-September period, while operating profit before impairment increased 14% to AED29 billion, the bank said.

Total assets grew 18% from the end of 2025 to AED1.38 trillion, while gross loans rose 27% to AED833 billion, supported by growth across most sectors and markets. Excluding the addition of India’s RBL Bank, acquired in June, loans increased 18% year-to-date.

Deposits climbed 19% to AED935 billion, or 12% excluding RBL Bank, reflecting growth across customer segments.

Asset quality remained strong, with the impaired loan ratio improving to 2% and the cost of risk standing at 37 basis points. The bank recorded AED2.1 billion in impairment allowances, primarily reflecting provisions at Turkey’s DenizBank, partly offset by recoveries at Emirates NBD.

The lender’s results come as it expands its regional presence and invests in digital banking and wealth management. In September, Emirates NBD agreed to acquire HSBC’s retail banking business in Egypt, adding to its acquisition of RBL Bank in June.

Emirates NBD Capital executed more than 70 debt capital markets transactions in 2026 year-to-date, raising over $60 billion across 13 countries, the bank said.

The group is also investing in digital services, with its ENBD X app offering 237 services, compared with 150 when it launched in 2023. Its assets under management in the UAE rose 15% since February 2026, reflecting growth in its wealth management business, the bank said.

"Emirates NBD achieved an outstanding set of results in the first nine months of 2026, with profit before tax reaching AED24.3 billion," stated Chief Executive Shayne Nelson.

The bank said its capital and liquidity ratios remained strong, supporting its capacity for further growth.
