Saudi Arabia has signed three memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Kuwait, Qatar and Egypt to strengthen regional cooperation across electricity, renewable energy, oil, gas and petrochemicals.
Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Saudi Minister of
Energy and Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, signed the agreements
with senior officials from the three countries, establishing frameworks for
expanded collaboration, joint projects and investment in key energy sectors.
The agreement with Kuwait’s Minister of Electricity, Water
and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Mukhizim, focuses on electricity and
renewable energy.
It covers power grid interconnection, electricity exports,
energy efficiency, storage technologies and smart grids, alongside digital
transformation, innovation, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence.
The two countries will also promote strategic partnerships
between their institutions, localise energy-related materials, products and
services, and strengthen cooperation between companies.
The agreement includes developing technologies and solutions
to mitigate climate change, including those associated with the Circular Carbon
Economy.
Under the MoU signed with Qatar’s Minister of State for
Energy Affairs, Saad Al-Kaabi, cooperation will span oil and petroleum
products, natural gas, refining, petrochemicals, electricity, clean hydrogen,
renewable energy, energy efficiency and storage.
Saudi Arabia and Qatar will explore joint projects involving
pipelines for transporting and exporting oil and gas, sustainable petrochemical
materials for construction and other industries, and infrastructure supporting
energy access.
The agreement also provides for coordination in
international negotiations, forums and organisations addressing energy
transitions, climate change and plastic pollution, including the United Nations
Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.
Meanwhile, the MoU signed with Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum
and Mineral Resources, Karim Badawi, focuses on oil, gas and their derivatives.
It covers trade, handling, transportation, storage and
distribution of crude oil, petroleum products and natural gas, as well as
related infrastructure and logistics.
The agreement aims to strengthen energy market integration,
improve supply chain resilience and reliability, enhance energy security, and
meet demand in domestic, regional and international markets.
Cooperation will comply with the laws and regulations of
both countries and operate on mutually beneficial commercial terms.
Saudi Arabia and Egypt will also exchange expertise in fuel
station and service centre qualification, operation and maintenance, and share
Saudi experience in opening the liquefied petroleum gas sector to competition.
The MoU further supports cooperation in petrochemicals and
investment in ongoing and planned projects.
The three agreements underscore Saudi Arabia’s efforts to deepen regional energy partnerships, diversify cooperation and strengthen energy security through technology, infrastructure development and investment. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
