The European Union may face gas supply shortages during the 2026–2027 winter, with storage levels at their lowest for this time of year since records began in 2011, according to the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis (IEEFA).
The report said the bloc may need to reduce winter gas
demand by 7 per cent, equivalent to 14 billion cubic metres, compared with last
winter.
EU gas storage stood at approximately 72.4 per cent on
October 3, down from around 83 per cent a year earlier.
The report warned that further supply disruptions and
unusually cold weather could push prices higher, putting pressure on
energy-intensive industries and consumers amid growing reliance on liquefied
natural gas imports. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
