Dana Gas and Crescent Petroleum have started supplying natural gas from the Khor Mor field in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity in Kirkuk, marking a key step in strengthening the country’s power sector.

Under an agreement signed with the Ministry in December, the companies, as joint operators of the Kurdistan Gas Project, will deliver 100 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscf/d) from the Khor Mor gas processing facility to the Kirkuk Taza power station for an initial one-year period.

The additional gas is expected to support electricity generation and improve power services across Iraq.

The supply follows the successful completion of the KM250 expansion project, commissioned in October 2025, which increased Khor Mor’s production capacity by 50 per cent to 750 MMscf/d.

The expansion enables the partners to access new markets and transport larger gas volumes through the existing pipeline network.

Khor Mor remains Iraq’s largest non-associated gas project and currently supplies fuel for more than 80 per cent of electricity generation in the Kurdistan Region, providing affordable power to more than 8 million people in the Kurdistan Region and other Iraqi governorates.

The project has attracted more than $4 billion in investment and generated over 47,000 direct and indirect jobs, with further economic and energy benefits expected as production capacity continues to expand. -OGN/TradeArabia News Service
