Kuwait power, water station hit in Iranian attack, fire reported

Kuwait's Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said on Saturday that an Iranian attack targeted a power and water desalination station, causing a fire but no casualties among ministry personnel.

The attack damaged one of the station's components, prompting the temporary shutdown of several units as a precaution to protect workers and maintain the stability of the electricity network, the ministry said in a statement carried by Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).

Firefighting teams from the ministry and the Kuwait Fire Force (KFF) were responding to the blaze, while emergency measures were activated to limit any impact on electricity and water services.

The KFF later said several firefighters and one worker were injured while battling fires at two sites targeted in the attacks. Five firefighting teams, supported by oil sector fire units, responded to one location, while three additional teams were deployed to contain a second blaze.

The injured personnel were evacuated and transferred for medical treatment, the KFF added.

Meanwhile the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, has called upon the public to reduce consumption during peak hours, particularly between 11am and 5pm, to help ease pressure on the power network during the current circumstances.
