Türkiye’s Salomon Cappadocia Ultra Trail achieves top score at UN Tourism Awards

The Salomon Cappadocia Ultra Trail, held annually in Türkiye’s world-renowned Cappadocia region, has become one of the country’s most prominent sporting events over the past 12 years.

Attracting more than 2,000 participants each year, the trail race showcases Cappadocia’s unique landscapes while promoting sports tourism.

The event was recently awarded first place in the “Community Impact in Sports Tourism” category at the inaugural UN Tourism Awards for Excellence in Sustainable Sports Tourism, organised in collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

These awards recognise initiatives that combine sustainability, innovation, and community engagement. The Cappadocia Ultra Trail stood out for its strong environmental awareness, contributions to local development, and its role in enhancing the region’s global image.

Supported by the Türkiye Tourism Promotion and Development Agency and organised by Argeus Travel & Events, the race is a key fixture in Türkiye’s trail-running calendar and reinforces the country’s reputation as a leader in sustainable sports tourism.

The award ceremony took place on March 19 in Madrid, during the ABB Formula E FIA World Championship CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix.

It brought together global leaders and stakeholders to celebrate best practices and encourage collaboration in sustainable tourism through sport.

Looking ahead, the Cappadocia Ultra Trail will be held for the 13th time this year, continuing to attract international athletes and visitors.

Set against the backdrop of Cappadocia’s UNESCO-listed Göreme Open Air Museum and distinctive rock formations, the event highlights the region’s cultural and natural richness.

Beyond the race, Türkiye offers diverse outdoor experiences year-round, from hiking and cycling to skiing and water sports.

Cappadocia itself provides activities such as horseback riding, valley hikes, and cultural workshops, making it a unique destination that blends adventure, heritage, and natural beauty. -TradeArabia News Service
