Turkish Airlines launches Braille boarding passes
ISTANBUL, November 20, 2017
Turkish Airlines has started to offer embossed boarding passes written in Braille for its visually impaired passengers, to make the flight experience easier for them.
The global carrier will offer the new service from the Special Service Check-in desk located at Istanbul Ataturk Airport International Departures Terminal.
The flag carrier has included its visually impaired staff in the process of research and development of the application project and formed the embossed boarding pass design by identifying all the needs of the disabled passengers with correct insight solution.
The most important information for travellers, such as reservation code, flight number, flight date and time, departure and arrival destinations, gate and seat numbers were added to the Braille boarding pass.
As Istanbul Ataturk Airport will be the pilot project airport, the new application is planned to be offered to visually impaired passengers at other airports in the near future.
Turkish Airlines' 'barrier-free travel experience' applications for disabled travelers is not limited to this, since the flag carrier airline has previously included audio described movie options and barrier-free safety information in in-flight entertainment systems for visually impaired passengers. In addition to this, more than 100 flight attendants and ground staff have been trained in sign language to make the travel experience easier for hearing-impaired passengers traveling with Turkish Airlines. - TradeArabia News Service
