L&T wins EPC contract for 300MW Saudi solar plant

JEDDAH, April 13, 2021

India's top engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) said one of its subsidiaries has secured a turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) order for a 300MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Saudi city of Jeddah.

The contract was awarded to the renewables unit of L&T’s Power Transmission and Distribution Business by a consortium of Abu Dhabi's Masdar along with French group EDF Renewables and Saudi multinational conglomerate Nesma.

The project is coming up in Third Jeddah Industrial City, 50km south-east of the Saudi port city. This large utility scale power plant utilises key technologies including bifacial modules, single axial trackers, string inverters and robots for module cleaning.

Saudi Arabia’s Renewable Energy Project Development Office (Repdo) had awarded the Jeddah power plant contract to the Masdar consortium under a design, finance, build and operate mode.

The project has now attained financial closure after the signing of the power purchase agreement and thereby the notice to Larsen & Toubro to proceed with the construction.

On the contract win, T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities), said: "We are delighted to be a part of establishing major solar projects awarded under the umbrella of Saudi Arabia’s pioneering National Renewable Energy Programme (NREP), thus marking yet another milestone in our green technology path to enable clean energy transition."

Earlier L&T had announced the major EPC order win for 1.5GW Sudair project in Saudi Arabia, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
