NYUAD appoints senior director of inclusion

ABU DHABI, October 19, 2020

New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) has appointed FatiahTouray as the University’s Senior Director of Inclusion and Equity, effective December 1, 2020.

The Senior Director of Inclusion and Equity is responsible for leading and directing NYUAD’s programs that promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

In her new role, Touray will work in partnership with NYUAD’s Office for Spiritual Life and Intercultural Education, the Vice Provost’s office of Faculty Development and Diversity, and all students, faculty, and staff dedicated to the work of helping NYUAD become a more fully inclusive institution.

Touray comes to NYUAD from Sarah Lawrence College (SLC), where she is currently serving as the inaugural Vice President for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and Special Assistant to the President. In her role at Sarah Lawrence, she launched the first campus climate survey focusing on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

She has introduced bias mitigation training for academic communities, launched programs designed to increase faculty diversity, worked on hiring, retention, and promotion for faculty and staff of colour, created and launched a course for all first-year students on Belonging at SLC, and created affinity groups for faculty and staff of colour.

Previously, she was the Assistant Dean of Diversity and International Advising and the Director of the Academic Achievement Program at the College of Arts and Science at NYU.

“Fatiah brings a deep commitment to global education and engagement along with diversity, equity, and inclusion to this new role,” said Vice Chancellor Mariët Westermann. “I am confident that she is the right person to guide our collaborative work to advance NYU Abu Dhabi’s commitment to inclusion and fostering an open environment where all members of our community can learn, work, and thrive.”

Recently, NYUAD launched a new public webpage dedicated to inclusion, diversity, belonging, and equity at the university. The webpage is designed to share information about NYUAD’s commitment to building and strengthening a culture of inclusion and includes links to programming, resources, and other initiatives that will support the university community as it fosters an environment where all can belong. – TradeArabia News Service
