The Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Sezad) has launched construction works using the 3D printing technology to build a residential unit in the Fishermen's Village, and a café in the Tourist Zone in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.

Saif bin Nasser Al Busaidi, Manager of Projects Management Department at Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Tatweer Duqm), pointed out that the project includes building café over an area of 101 sq m and a residential unit to be built on 72 sq m of land in the Fishermen’s Village.

The construction process will take around a few days to build the café using 3D printing technology, marking a remarkable change in the construction sector in comparison with the traditional building process.

In addition to the record time of construction when using 3D building technology, it does not require having the concrete beams for the building structure. Rather, this technique converts the cement material into an integrated structure instead of using the traditional construction material such as concrete, iron and other material.

The Public Authority for Special economic Zones and Free Zones (Opaz) approved earlier this year using the 3D printing technology in construction. This comes in line with Opaz efforts to promote innovation, research and development in construction sector by using 3D printing and encourage localising such modern techniques in construction and accelerate the construction pace in the zones affiliated with Opaz. – TradeArabia News Service
