Kuwait awards $709m infrastructure project deal

KUWAIT, July 13, 2017

The Kuwaiti government has awarded infrastructure projects worth KD215 million ($709 million) in the South Matlaa area of the country, said a report.

A Chinese company has been roped in for the development works including the construction of 18,000 housing units and  road projects in the new city located west of Kuwait City, reported state news agency Kuna.

The contract was signed in the presence of Kuwait's Minister for Housing Affairs and Minister for Services Yasser Abul during the visit of an official Chinese delegation to the country recently.

It comes on the heels of several contracts in the housing and communications sectors, and reflects the positive outcome of the visit, he added, without specifying the company that signed the deal.

Meanwhile, Chinese technology and smartphone giant Huawei will be implementing the second phase of a fibre optics project in Kuwait, after it signed a KD22 million ($72 million) contract with Kuwait's Ministry of Services, it added.
