Iran is willing to provide technical and engineering services for African infrastructure projects, a senior government official was quoted as saying in an Iran Daily report.

Mohammadreza Nematzadeh, the Iranian minister for industry, mine and trade, highlighted the country’s experience in mass construction in building two million houses. The know-how has been transferred to Venezuela and a number of other countries, he said.

Nematzadeh made the announcement during a meeting with the Kenyan Minister of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development James Wainaina Macharia, the report said, citing Mehr News Agency.

"Given the existence of numerous cement and steel factories, Iran has managed to export more 20 million tonnes of former as well as 4 million tonnes of the latter," he added.

"Special capabilities also exist in the fields of rail, road and airport construction which can be offered to interested countries within the framework of technical and engineering services,” Macharia said.

Kenya is planning to invite tenders for the construction of 10,000 kilometres of road, he said, underlining opportunities for collaboration between the two countries.

"Kenya has a great deal of experience in railway and subway arenas and is willing to establish joint ventures between Iranian and Kenyan companies."
