Doha summit to discuss building safety standards
DOHA, March 14, 2015
Leading experts from the global construction industry will be in Doha, Qatar, next month to debate the safety standards and practices in the built environment at a key industry seminar.
The Safety Design in Buildings conference will be held at the Crowne Plaza Doha - The Business Park on April 20.
It is a GCC-wide initiative offering insights through presentations and panel discussions for an improved protection of people and assets in the Gulf.
The conference will draw top fire consultants, façade designers and testing experts together with safety system suppliers to give an update on industry standards and provide a debating platform for trends and development, said the event organisers.
The current cycle of events investigates fire safety considerations for malls and other high occupancy buildings with a view to strategy planning, material, egress and safety system requirements, which are constantly challenged by the ambitious infrastructure development in the GCC, they added.
Several key speakers have been lined up for the one-day event. These include
*Andy Dean, the head of façade engineering at WSP Group who will speak on safety design of complex buildings and implementation of fire safety design
*John Noone, associate at Arup who will discuss “Fire Engineering Design Approaches - A Consistant Level of Sophistication”
*John Huish, the associate (Fire & Life Safety) at WSP who will highlight the “Evacuation Philosophies for High Occupancy Buildings ”
*Aaron Vanney, the operations manager at RJA will speak on “Safety Enhancements for Super Tall Buildings”
In the second session, Altaf Afridi, the regional director Mena at Dorma will give a brief presentation on the “Access Control & Fire Doors.”
It will give an overview of latest technologies and solutions for manual and electronic access control for high occupancy buildings.
James Bychowski, the senior vice president for Middle East at Aon Fire Protection, will explain about the “Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance of Automatic Sprinkler Systems.”
The event will see experts discuss system types, preventive measures and examples of common failures from real world examples from years of system inspections and fire loss investigations.-TradeArabia News Service
