The UN International Maritime Organization (IMO) has temporarily suspended its operation to escort and evacuate ships through the Strait of Hormuz after a cargo vessel came under attack, raising fresh concerns over maritime security despite a preliminary agreement aimed at ending the Iran conflict.
The International Maritime Organisation (IMO) has announced a plan to evacuate 11,000 seafarers stranded in the Strait of Hormuz. The operation would be conducted in co-ordination with Iran, Oman and US and all other stakeholders from the maritime industry.
Around 20,000 seafarers remain trapped and unable to leave in and around the Strait of Hormuz, said International Maritime Organization (IMO) Secretary-General Arsenio Dominguez.
