Abu Dhabi hotel occupancy rates down 7.4pc in September

Abu Dhabi's hospitality sector witnessed a major drop in growth rates in September with the  occupancy in the UAE capital's hotels down 7.4 per cent and the average daily rate (ADRs) falling by 1.9pc, according to STR's preliminary data for the month.
 
The year-on-year performance of Abu Dhabi's hotels for last month were negatively affected by an earlier Eid Al Adha in 2018, stated the report by STR which provides clients from multiple market sectors with premium, global data benchmarking, analytics and marketplace insights.  
 
The preliminary September 2018 data for Abu Dhabi by STR indicated the supply outpacing demand. 
 
The hospitality market across the UAE capital witnessed a 5.1 per cent jump in supply even as the demand was down 2.6 per cent. The occupancy rates fell to 67.4 per cent last month, while the ADRs registered a 1.9 per cent decline hitting Dh339.02.
 
The revenue per available room (RevPAR) too plunged 9.1 per cent to Dh228.45, it added.
