Dubai Culture organises ‘Heritage Summer Programme’

Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the emirate’s dedicated entity for culture, arts, heritage and literature, launched its ‘Heritage Summer Programme’, organised by the Dubai Heritage Development Centres.
The programme, which comes under the theme ‘Compete with You and for You’, is being held in Zabeel Park’s Positive Energy Reading Gallery. The programme targets female students aged 14 to 18 years old.
The programme includes 11 innovative activities and workshops, and cultural and heritage events that will go on for two weeks. The activities will be benefiting 30 female students during the summer vacation to fully take advantage of their time off, and the workshops will be supervised by a group of experts in relevant fields.
The programme includes workshops such as: A workshop which focuses on the art of digging, unloading and cutting wood; A traditional art application workshop, that features a variety of activities for people with determination; a workshop for formative art; Coffee workshop, which will feature creative coffee art; and lastly, a workshop designed to introduce attendees to flower species.
Fatima Lootah, director of Cultural and Heritage Programs Department at Dubai Culture, said: “One of the main objectives we aim to achieve from this summer programme is the development of the artistic capabilities of the students, instilling the new generation with initiative. Given the interactive nature and atmosphere of the activities, students will be encouraged to achieve their goals with the help of some personalities from different cultural and heritage fields, who will participate in the management of positive dialogues resulting in innovative ideas. Participants will surely find this forum to be the best investment during their summer holiday."
The programme will also focus on achievements and personalities that present cultural and heritage works, contributing to the development of artistic and applied works, and achieving personal goals that have a clear reflection in society, highlight the national spirit in its work.
Dubai Culture manages six Dubai Heritage Development Centres in public schools across the Emirate. These were established to be educational platforms for UAE’s heritage and to raise the level of cultural awareness among students. In addition, the centres aim to develop the skills of students, teachers and parents, by organising specialised workshops that focus on traditional crafts in the UAE, and other workshops with the intention to develop traditional tools.
Dubai Culture aims to enhance Dubai’s cultural scene and draw attention to the emirate’s rich heritage with a variety of initiatives that take place throughout the year.
