Bürgenstock hotels receive top honour
SWITZERLAND, December 19, 2017
The Bürgenstock Selection hotels received top honour at the World Luxury Hotel Awards after receiving six new international awards.
The Bürgenstock Hotel & Alpine Spa, the flagship hotel of the Bürgenstock Resort which opened this September, was recognised as the regional winner in the category 'Luxury New Hotel' and 'Luxury Scenic View Hotel'.
The hotel was designed by local architects and uses shell limestone sourced from the Alps throughout. Built on the site of the former Park Hotel, contemporary interiors feature subtle alpine touches to illustrate mountain life, such as the traditional wood-carved walls. The hotel connects directly to the 10,000-sq-m Alpine Spa and to the neighbouring Palace Hotel via the Museum Corridor.
The historic Hotel Schweizerhof Bern & The Spa lifted a hat-trick of titles at the World Luxury Hotel Awards: Luxury Hotel & Conference Centre Regional Winner – Western Europe; Luxury Contemporary Hotel Country Winner: Switzerland; and Luxury Historical Hotel Global Winner.
Recently renovated and restored to preserve its heritage, the property offers 99 rooms and suites, the famous Jack’s Brasserie, a lobby bar and lounge, a cigar lounge and a rooftop terrace that offers unparalleled views over the city of Bern. The banqueting, event and conference space occupy an entire floor known as Bel Etage, while the hotel makes available the only luxury spa in Bern.
Meanwhile, The Royal Savoy Hotel & Spa Lausanne added a further two awards at the prestigious International Hotel Awards: Best International Large Hotel Global Winner; and Best Large Hotel Switzerland Country Winner.
The Lausanne landmark re-opened in September 2016 after a period of renovation and expansion, retaining the charm and luxury it boasted when first opening its doors back in 1906. The property offers 196 well-appointed rooms and suites and a spa with indoor and outdoor swimming pool.
In winning the Best International Large Hotel Global award, the hotel beat off strong competition from other regional winners from the Middle East, Asia Pacific, Africa, the UK and the US & Americas, including the LUX Belle Mare in Mauritius, The Crowne Plaza Amman Hotel in Jordan and the Waldorf Astoria Ras Al Khaimah.
The awards come hard on the heels of a string of other recent awards for the Royal Savoy Hotel & Spa, including Best Hotel Interior in Europe at the International Property Awards for their work with London-based MKV Design; Luxury New Hotel Switzerland at the 2018 World Luxury Hotel Awards; and Best Business Hotel at the Prime Traveller Business Awards earlier this year.
The luxury hotel has also been nominated for Best Hotel Spa in Western Europe & Scandinavia in the World Spa & Wellness Awards, in London in February.
Bruno Schöpfer, managing director of Bürgenstock Selection, said: “All Bürgenstock Selection hotels have undergone extensive renovation, restoration and expansion, reopening with the weight of history and expectations very much upon them. With so much positive international recognition already this year, it proves that we are certainly heading in the right direction.”
The World Luxury Hotel Awards, established in 2006, is the pinnacle of achievement in the luxury hotel industry offering international recognition as voted by guests, travelers and industry players alike. Over 300,000 international travellers vote each year, during a four-week period to select the winners.
Meanwhile, the International Hotel Awards have been developed to identify, highlight and reward excellence throughout the global hospitality industry throughout a wide range of areas. In addition to categories for several types of specialty hotels and categories by hotel size, there are also categories for best hotel architecture, construction, interior design, marketing and website. - TradeArabia News Service
