MANAMA, November 20, 2017

Bahrain received a total of 8.7 million tourists during the first three quarters of 2017, up 12.8 per cent on the same period the previous year, according to official data.

The figures, reported by the Bahrain Tourism & Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), show that Bahrain’s tourism industry is growing steadily, said the the latest Bahrain Economic Quarterly published by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB).

With development projects worth approximately $10 billion under construction across the kingdom, including the $159-million The Avenues shopping mall that was opened recently, and hotel resorts The One & Only in Seef and The Wyndham Grand in Bahrain Bay, this trajectory is set to continue in the near future, the report said.

Bahrain has a pipeline of infrastructure projects worth over $32 billion either under construction or scheduled for the near future, it added.

Meanwhile, Bahrain's non-oil sector grew at a rate of 4.7 per cent in the first half of 2017, ahead of the 4 per cent recorded during 2016 as a whole, the report added. TradeArabia News Service
