Marriott course to jumpstart hospitality career for Saudi nationals

RIYADH, August 24, 2017

Marriott International is ready to roll out its Tahseen programme in Saudi Arabia following the completion of its assessment centers across the region and selecting over 40 candidates ahead of the official launch in September.

‘Tahseen’, a unique hospitality management development program focused on fast tracking next generation Saudi leaders, has been introduced by Marriott International with a view to providing a springboard to launch successful careers in the country’s robust hospitality sector.

Developed in conjunction with Cornell University and supported by key partner DUR Hospitality, Tahseen is launching for Saudi nationals and provides a 12 to 18-month programme focused on providing full exposure to the business of running a hotel resulting in a managerial opportunity. The programme offers graduates six months of cross-exposure to all departments and six to 12 months of departmental specialisation.  It also provides graduates access to Marriott International’s world-renowned core management development programs.

Speaking in light of the recent assessment day, Alex Kyriakidis, president and CEO, Middle East and Africa, Marriott International, said: “Marriott International has long been focused on developing talent in the markets in which we operate and empowering diversity has always been critical to our business model.  We constantly seek out initiatives across our region that are both inspiration and results-orientated. Through our close collaboration with Cornell University and partnership with DUR Hospitality, we aim to help nurture the dreams and aspirations of young Saudi Nationals and support the rapid growth the hospitality sector is forecast to sustain over the years. It is also something that I am passionate about and truly believe in. I remain focused on retaining and fostering talent and creating fulfilling careers for our associates.”

Taking place at Le Meridien Al Khobar, Marriott Hotel Riyadh and Le Meridien Jeddah, the assessment days consisted of a variety of presentations and activities. Each candidate was rated on a series of competencies including interpersonal communication, ambition to lead others, professional poise, service mindset passion for hospitality, overall motivation and whether they fit with Marriott’s culture. The hotel operator also took into consideration candidates experience and desire to work and develop a career in the hospitality industry.

Over the duration of the programme, Tahseen graduates will be fully immersed into all aspects of the business and enroll in E-Cornell certificate programmes, combined with Cornell University’s executive leadership workshop delivered in the country, which will be tailored to the local culture and unique business environment of Saudi Arabia and the wider Middle East.

Tahseen aims to drive participation and interest of Arab youth through Marriott International’s world-class training. The program is customised for local Arabs in line with the rising need of Saudi leaders in the hospitality industry.

The program will officially launch on September 11 at The Ritz-Carlton, Riyadh. - TradeArabia News Service
