Ryanair awarded $287,000 in Twitter prank case

DUBLIN, July 18, 2017

Ryanair has won a $287,000 court judgement after an anonymous twitter user tweeted a bomb threat to the airline.

According to a report in Aerotime, the post from @GunnexGod read: "You have 15 minutes before I commit the biggest terror attack the UK has ever seen on one of your planes. Be ready."

An investigation was launched and the terror threat was indetified as false. The offender was identified as Brian Lake from Pennsylvania, US.

The Irish airline filed extortion and defamation proceedings.

A US Court judge has ordered Lake to pay a total of $287,599 (£220,000).
