Qatar nationals, expats banned from UAE airports

ABU DHABI, June 7, 2017

With the conflict between Qatar and some of its Gulf neighbours intensifying, UAE national carrier Etihad has declared that Qatar's nationals as well as its expat residents will not be allowed to travel to or transit through UAE airports.

This announcement follows instructions by relevant authorities in the UAE, said a report in Reuters citing a statement released by the Abu Dhabi-based carrier.

"This ruling applies to all airlines flying into the UAE, including Etihad Airways," the airline said.

The move follows UAE severing all diplomatic relations with Qatar, in a coordinated decision with Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt. The countries also said all air, sea, and land links with Qatar will be closed.

According to the ruling, nationals and expats from Qatar will not granted visa-on-arrival in the UAE.

Several other countries, including Libya, Yemen and the Maldives, have backed the GCC states' decision and snapped ties with Qatar.

The rift has affected global oil prices, hit travel plans and sown confusion among businesses, the report said.
