Oryx Rotana hosts 'Blindfold Dinner'

Oryx Rotana, a five-star luxury business hotel in Doha, hosted a “Blindfold dinner" on October 12 at “Jade A” ballroom.
The event was held in association with Orbis UK, this initiative was aimed at supporting people with visual disabilities.
During the event, guests were welcomed at “Jade B” ballroom for a photography session. Subsequently, blindfolds and aprons were distributed to all guests, after which ushers and volunteers guided them to their seats where dinner was served in the dark.
On this occasion, Lana Jwainat, director of Marketing and Communications at Oryx Rotana Doha, said: “We are happy to host the blindfold dinner for the fourth consecutive time, and we consider this as a great opportunity to support people with visual disabilities. Furthermore, the event brings about a unique experience in terms of awakening our other senses and live the feeling of those lacking this blessing as well as the competencies and capabilities they have.”

Florence Branchu, head of Partnerships in the Middle East for Orbis and the Qatar Creating Vision initiative said: “285 Million People in the world are blind or visually impaired. Yet 80 per cent can be avoided or cured. Qatar Creating Vision is a new initiative, funded by the Qatar Fund For Development and implemented by Orbis. This truly remarkable philanthropic initiative is bringing together governments, charities, business and hospitals to deliver 5.5 million eye tests and treatments to children in India and Bangladesh before 2020”.
